I know that some readers might not know what a lather is, so I will do my best to explain. A lathe (rhymes with the verb bathe) spins the material so that a stationary tool can remove material.

Typical things made on a lathe are stairway bannisters, wooden bowls and brake rotors.

This gentleman put two pumpkins in his lathe and began spinning it. The results are strange looking.
